Injury, Recovery, and Running for Life with Kevin R. Stone, MD

Injury, Recovery, and Running for Life with Kevin R. Stone, MD

On the Becoming Ultra Podcast, Dr. Stone joins the show for a runner-focused conversation with host Scott Jones about the meaning of pain signals, patience in recovery, injury prevention training, and how athletes can keep moving for life.

The episode speaks directly to runners who have been injured, taken time away, or been told that running may no longer be possible. Dr. Stone explains why that message may not always be the final answer, while discussing how to think about pain, recovery, and the strength training needed to return safely and keep improving.

You may listen to the episode, “Injury Recovery and Running for Life With Dr. Kevin R. Stone,” on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. You can also follow Becoming Ultra on Instagram.

Running Across America After Partial Knee Replacement

One year after his second partial knee replacement, Richard began his TransUSA Run at the Boston Marathon and finished 3,200 miles and 16 states later at the Santa Monica Pier in California.

Running more than 40 miles per day on partial knee replacements was a phenomenal accomplishment and a direct challenge to old assumptions about knee replacement and sport.

Richard's story raises the bar for what athletes should expect after knee replacement. If you have been told to stop running, stop competing, or wait until your life gets smaller, his recovery is a reason to ask whether better options exist.
