Glucosamine Sulfate - Chondroitin Sulfate

-

These two compounds have gained widespread use for the treatment of arthritic conditions. Though initially skeptical of "homeopathic" natural remedies, our patients have swayed our thinking by reporting excellent symptomatic relief, comparable to any non-steroidal (NSAID) drug.

The dosage that appears to be effective is 1500 mg of Glucosamine plus 1200 mg of Chondroitin sulfate. The pills can be taken once a day. We have attached the references in the literature below.

A warning however:

  1. We cannot recommend anyone to take any medication without consulting their medical doctor.
  2. The combinations found in the health food stores are very misleading as is the pricing. Look for either 1000 mg or 500 mg tablets and compare prices for doses of 1500 mg a day of glucosamine sulfate. The chondrotin sulfate seems to come in 400 mg tablets. The combinations rarely include enough of each compound.
