Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections for the ankle joint have been used for tendonitis around the ankle as well as articular cartilage lesions having difficulty healing.

PRP concentrates growth factors from the patients own platelets and stimulates the repair process. The procedure is quite safe and is sometimes augmented with hyaluronic acid in order to improve lubrication in the joint. The technique is performed in the office with local anesthetic.
